FAQ about INDOREX® SPRAY:

What is INDOREX® SPRAY?.

INDOREX® SPRAY is a household insecticide, pre-pressurised hand-held aerosol for the control of fleas, preventing environmental infestation and re-infestation for up to 12 months. The can contains 500ml of solution. The INDOREX® SPRAY is also effective on house dust mites. INDOREX® SPRAY should be used in domestic premises on hard porous and non porous surfaces, hard and soft furnishing and pets’ bedding as a broadcast and crack and crevice treatment

How effective is INDOREX® SPRAY?

INDOREX® SPRAY contains a combination of 3 ingredients: pyriproxyfen, permethrin and piperonyl butoxide. Permethrin is an insecticide which effectively and quickly kills adult fleas present in a pet’s environment. Piperonyl butoxide is a synergist that reinforces the activity of permethrin. Pyriproxifen is a long-acting insect growth regulator that prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing into adults. This breaks the flea life cycle and provides a continuous protection for up to 12 months when used as directed and eliminates adults for 2 months.

How easy is it to use INDOREX® SPRAY?

INDOREX® SPRAY is a surface spray. Shake well before use. Remove pets but ensure that pets’ beddings are treated. Invert the container and hold upright about 50cm from the surfaces to be treated. Use INDOREX® SPRAY by spraying directly on and if possible under carpets and rugs, blankets, tiles, skirting boards, paying particular attention to cracks and crevices.

How much do I use of INDOREX® SPRAY?

A five second burst will treat approximately 1 square meter. The discharge rate is 1.25g per second. A can of 500ml will treat approximately an 80 square meters area, which would be similar to a 3-bedroom house. The efficacy of INDOREX® SPRAY is concentration dependant, therefore it is important to respect the rate of 5 seconds squirt per square meter to treat. It is recommended to shut the room up for half an hour after spraying and then ventilate the room for a further half hour after use.  At the recommended rate of use of INDOREX® SPRAY, a treatment once a year is sufficient to control flea infestation indoors.

I have used INDOREX® SPRAY and it doesn’t seem to have worked as I still have fleas in the household environment. Does it mean that the product is faulty?

No, the product is not faulty. In the normal cycle of a flea, the pupa is protected from any chemicals by a thick coating. The adult flea needs to hatch from the pupa to be exposed to and affected by INDOREX® SPRAY.

How long does the effect of INDOREX® SPRAY last?

INDOREX® SPRAY breaks the flea life cycle and provides a continuous protection for up to 12 months and eliminates adults for 2 months. Applied on soft furnishing, it will withstand several standard washings and although it would withstand dry cleaning, it is recommended to re-apply INDOREX® SPRAY. In fact, as a strategy to eradicate flea eggs, it would make sense to wash blankets and shampoo carpets before applying the spray even though INDOREX® SPRAY would withstand at least 2 carpet-shampooing.In the case of applying INDOREX® SPRAY onto floorboards, the solution of INDOREX® SPRAY would withstand regular mop washing as it would be unlikely that this would flush INDOREX® SPRAY out of the cracks and crevices.

INDOREX® SPRAY is a treatment for the environment of the pet. Do not spray directly on your pet, but spray on his beddings and blankets. Yes, INDOREX® SPRAY is also active against house dust mites by providing a total control. INDOREX® SPRAY is active on adult fleas, larvae and eggs. Is it safe to use INDOREX® SPRAY if I'm pregnant?

Yes, it is safe:  no toxic reaction has ever been recorded to permethrin other than skin irritation following contact with 'raw' liquid compound and pyriproxyfen has even been incorporated into the drinking water in the Far East to control mosquito larvae.

What about Human bedding?

If you are concerned about fleas or larvae in the mattress, spray the mattress and then cover with two sheets - that should be perfectly safe. Likewise with pillows; two pillowcases on the pillow should be safe enough.

What coverage does 1 can of INDOREX® SPRAY provide?

At the HSE recommended application rate (5 second burst per sq metre) - there is sufficient in one can to cover 80 sq metres, and estate agent stats give a total surface area range of 55 to 74 sq metres for a 3 bed semi.

What about House Dust Mites (HDM)?

INDOREX® SPRAY is now fully approved by the Health and Safety Executive for the control of House Dust Mites. HDM are the main allergens involved in atopic dermatitis in dogs and are also often implicated in asthma in humans.A single application of INDOREX® SPRAY will provide at least 12 months' control. However, dead HDM are just as allergenic as live ones. For this reason it is essential that, following the application of INDOREX® SPRAY, a high power, high filtration vacuum cleaner is used regularly to eliminate the dead HDM bodies. HDM also prefer humid conditions in the house so the installation of a de-humidifier can be a considerable benefit.

I have a fish tank, which is too heavy to move - what should I do?

Switch off the pump. Cover the tank with two thick blankets. Spray the INDOREX® SPRAY as directed, i.e. always holding the can vertically so that the nozzle is pointing downwards. INDOREX® SPRAY is heavier than air so any of the chemicals that might be harmful to the fish will stay at ground level. Ventilate the room for one hour and then remove the blankets and switch the pump back on.

I'm asthmatic - what should I do?

Preferably get someone else to spray for you, then ventilate rooms and go back in after 30 minutes, OR - hold a damp hankie over your mouth and then follow instructions as above. The product itself represents no particular danger but the propellant is carbon dioxide and increased levels of this gas can be associated with asthma attacks.

Is it safe for my very young baby (crawling on the floor) after spraying?

Yes - no toxic reaction has ever been recorded to permethrin other than skin irritation following contact with 'raw' liquid compound. Furthermore, INDOREX® SPRAY binds electrostatically to all surfaces such that it will not come off on the skin.

I used INDOREX® SPRAY a few days ago and there are still fleas jumping around!

The relevant stages of the flea lifecycle need to be explained:Old, crusty pupae (>4 dd old) are unaffected by any insecticide. These pupae can survive in the house for over 12 months... but, they do hatch out in response to vibration, especially in warm humid weather. These newly hatched fleas will be killed within 24 hours by the permethrin for up to 2 months after application. The process can be speeded up by aggressive vacuum cleaning for 7 consecutive days, encouraging the pupae to hatch and these can be physically removed by the vacuum cleaner. Pay special attention to areas where dogs/cats lie/sleep. Spray bag of vacuum with INDOREX® SPRAY.
